My Adventures in Bali

Halo! That's how they say hello in Bahasa, and I greet you the same in this article too! If you've seen my recent post, you would have seen that it was about the tropical island of Bali.

Here's the continuation, and this will be some of the very few places we visited when we opted to leave the resort, and the very few that I have digital copies of.

Bali, famed as being 'island of the gods', with its varied landscape of hills and mountains, rugged coastlines and sandy beaches, lush rice terraces and volcanic hillside that provide picturesque backgrounds, it has something to offer to every one who visits, from young backpackers to the super rich visitors.

Since the resort was a bit away from the downtown area, we always needed to book a hotel vehicle every time we wanted to go out. And since we already had everything we need and wanted there, I think there was just a day that we went to look around and to shop for souvenirs.

Since it was December when we went, the weather was nice, it was not too hot or too humid, so perfect for just relaxing. The Indian Ocean surrounds the island, and yes, they were affected by the big tsunami that happened a couple of years before we visited.

This is the Tanah Lot Temple, one of Bali's most important landmarks. Famed for its unique offshore setting and beautiful sunsets, it is one place you don't want to miss when visiting.

According to Wikipedia, the temple's rockface was starting to crumble and the area around and inside the temple was becoming dangerous, so in 1980, the Japanese government loaned the Indonesian government to restore the temple area and other significant places in Bali.

The temple can be reached by going through several shops that lead down to the temple, but we did not go as during that time, it was high tide, plus, we weren't planning on going into the temple itself.

We just took pictures from afar. The waves can be scary as they are so big! Myth has it that the temple is guarded by venomous snakes to protect it from evil spirits.

Another place we visited was the famous Jimbaran beach. We just went to have lunch at one of the restaurants in the Four Seasons resort and took our time walking along the beach, that's why I was not wearing swimwear.

The sand there, like the sand at the beach at the resort, is very very fine, it almost felt like silt, but very firm on the feet.

It is very common in Balinese culture that when they build gardens, there are always ponds, and when there are ponds, there are lotus plants. Not sure why that is, but I just took a picture of the lotus flower.

I didn't know what this was before, but I just took a picture of it since it looked interesting. A recent post I saw on FB says that is calabash tree fruit, which has medicinal properties.

Apparently, the syrup prepared from the pulp is used as medicine for relieving disorders of the chest or respiratory tract, and also cures dysentery and stomach aches. Meanwhile, the leaves are used to reduce blood pressure. Apparently this tree is dubbed the 'miracle tree', as almost every part has a medicinal purpose.

I wish I could say the same about this flowering tree but I don't know what it is, I just took a picture of it because it looked pretty.

This is still Jimbaran beach, and long this beach are the other top hotel resorts like the Four Seasons and the InterContinental resort, which I hope to visit soon. :-)

This is another photo at the Tanah  Lot Temple area. I was able to take a picture of the wave hitting the rock, which was beautiful.

Another shot of the Jimbaran beach, with the lush green resort area in the background of the Four Seasons Resort.

This is the road that leads to the resort. The developers sure planned it good because it sure looked good from all sides.

Can you spot the bird? The bird did not fly away as I took a picture.

Aside from the frangipani trees that abounded, I also saw these trees with beautiful flowers.

The last picture is again that of the Tanah Lot. The whole thing is just beautiful, especially when the waves hit the rocks.

I found more pictures, printed ones in my albums and I tried taking pictures of them with my phone so the quality is not as good as the ones above. This picture shows the entrance of the resort, or where the name of the resort is.

Bali is another place, where, just for a few days, I was a millionaire. I changed a thousand Hong Kong dollars and it was close to two million rupiahs already! I was told to shop til I drop, but there was no way I could spend that much money in such a short time! Ha ha!

All in all, I enjoyed my time in this beautiful island, enjoyed eating their delicious food, and experienced their hospitality.

I may or may not go there again, but these pictures prove that I have made many great memories there.
