Hello again to our readers! Here's another destination you can consider when you're planning your travels. It is the tropical island of Bali, Indonesia!
Work took me to a lot of places, and one such place is Indonesia. We went there after Christmas of 2006, and usually we went to Japan for skiing, but that time we opted for a warmer climate and chose to go to Bali instead.
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Resort in a small locality called Ubud, and we flew from Hong Kong by Cathay Pacific into the airport there. From the airport we were picked up by a hotel pick up and we drove for about half an hour to get to the hotel.
The place was fabulous! We hardly ever left the place, we swam, we ate, we played at the private beach, so here are some pictures I managed to find from my archives as I lost the rest.
The place was huge, overlooking the Indian Ocean, and we enjoyed our stay there very much. This is just one of the few pools that the hotel have.Everyday, after breakfast, which was buffet breakfast by the way, we would decide which pool we were gonna go to, or do something else other than swimming.
This is the Indian Ocean, and this is the private beach of the hotel. It is very secluded and can only be used by guests of the hotel as it is inaccessible from the outside.
The resort comprises of several buildings scattered throughout the property, and the hedges, lawns and plants are of course perfectly maintained. I was so blessed to be able to travel in such a style, getting to experience staying at such beautiful places.
The picture on top? This pool is above it. So who wants to leave the hotel when you can pool hop, read a book, lounge on a chair or order some food when you want and you don't have to worry about paying for it? Ha ha ha!
This building are rooms for guests and we had 2 rooms booked. Everything looks green and fresh, which gives it a relaxing atmosphere.
When I go tired of Balinese cuisine, I got to order burgers as well, and, my favorite drink of all, fresh coconut juice! I drank this every single day! Even for room service. And I could look down from the balcony and enjoy the greenery while I ate my food.
I took this picture from the hallway of the building where we were and it overlooks a bar and yet another pool.
Now, this was way the coolest thing about the resort. At the end of that wooden bridge, is a little hut, and when you want to have a special dinner, you can book it, have dinner brought there, and you can have all the privacy you want! It was about 10 minutes walk from the other buildings. Nobody can hear you if you scream, what with the waves of the sea drowning all other sounds.
Me relaxing by the pool. I was in Indonesia but I was wearing a Thailand shirt, ha ha! I think I was waiting for pizza to arrive. No wonder I was very tanned during those days. I was almost near a pool or the beach almost everyday.
If you go up this flight of stairs, you then get to the main building, where guests first arrive and do their check in. The ground is wet from the rain.
This is the same area, only taken from a little farther to see the whole area near one of the pools. Frangipani trees abound which also gives the air a fragrant smell.
Here is the jetty again taken from another vantage point. The waves can get pretty big though, so don't let that blue water fool you.
The hut doesn't look too big from this point. I think it is just for a romantic dinner or date for two. Ahem! Ahem! I wonder it if sways when it gets hit by big waves. I tried checking it out one day halfway though I went back as I didn't know if there was someone using it at the time. It would have been embarrassing!
We just had lunch by the pool side yet again, and I was 'ordered' to go and relax at this giant lounge are under a canopy. I actually fell asleep and took a nap! As if I wasn't relaxing already.
This is an infinity pool. I was standing by the edge of the pool and yet it looks as if I am in the middle of the water still. The water at my back is already the sea. Pardon my unkempt hair and the twisted sleeve of the swimsuit. :-)
This is the infinity pool taken from the top. You go down a flight of steps, down to the pool, then if you want to go down to the beach you take another flight down. So your choice, dipping in salty water, or the chlorinated water above. Oh, the choices.
The water is very clear, and the sand very fine, which makes it very enticing, you just have to at least dip your feet in.
The big rocks surrounding the area somehow blocks the wind, so you can just relax in the area for as long as you want.
The well-manicured lawns and the numerous frangipani trees.
This is yet another pool at the resort. There must have been five different pools located in different areas and you just picked where you wanted to go. And everywhere, there were staff, waiting to take your order, and they bring everything to you.
Okay, you can have a book and read under the trees, or you could be listening to music and just look out the Indian Ocean below. Ah, those memories as I write these articles.
Anyways, here sums up my stay at this fabulous place. The next article will be some of the other things I saw when we did go out of the resort, although most of the pictures are gone. Til next post!
