Wineries and Vineyards in South Western Australia

Howdy mates! Our adventure in South Western Australia is not yet over. Not only are they famous for kangaroos and koalas, Australia has established itself as a wine producing country, and this time I will take you to several vineyards and wineries we visited while we were there.

The Margaret River wine region to the south of Western Australia receives its temperate climate from the cooling influence of the Indian Ocean. Some varieties that they cultivate include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon blanc, Chenin blanc and Chardonnay, which are kinds of grapes that are used to produce white and red wines respectively.

Wineries and vineyards usually have their shops where visitors can taste and purchase wine, and also they usually have their restaurants too and they decorate their grounds so that it can be used as an events place for weddings and other things.

The grounds are spacious, making it a nice place to run around in and to just enjoy the cool breeze and the scenery. This is the grounds/garden of the Wise Winery, which is the only winery in the Margaret River region which boasts a restaurant with ocean views.

Their website says that it is the only place where the vines meet the sea. This winery is located in Eagle Bay, which is where our rental house was, and it was only a half hour or so drive from our house.

It also is a very famous wedding place, and considering the vast grounds, the greenery around it, it makes a perfect place for a garden wedding indeed.

Do you see the ocean in the distance? I remember eating their fish and chips here, which was almost always what I was ordering since I could not have it any fresher anywhere else.

This is one part of their vineyard, so we went and took pictures. There were no fruits at the time though. It would have been so cool to have a picture with bunches of ripe grapes in the background.

Their reputation is known all around the Margaret River region and beyond, not just for their wine, but for their restaurant food and the magnificent views.

If I remember correctly, I  think this is the door to their wine cellar.

This is Leeuwin Estate Winery. They also have beautiful gardens and it is also an events place.

Can't remember where is this exactly. It may be part of Leeuwin Estate or not, but I'm sure it was a winery that we visited.

Outdoor concerts are also held here, and Leeuwin Estate is considered one of the 'founding' wineries of the Margaret River region.

This is another place I cannot remember but is another vineyard. Maybe Leeuwin as well.

I cannot even remember how many wineries we visited but they all had their distinctive charms and beauty.

Although I do not really drink wine, or any alcohol for that matter, it was fun visiting these places as I got to see their beautifully manicured gardens and the different kinds of grapes they grow.

Australia is the first country that I traveled that has vineyards and wineries, so it was quite an experience for me.

This is the Leeuwin Estate restaurant. I don't remember what I ate here though. Ha ha. Perhaps a burger? Or fish and chips again? Cos I remember in Augusta that is what I had as well. I was having my fill of fish and chips!

Leeuwin Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Now, Leeuwin Estate exports to 30 markets worldwide.

I'm hoping that I'll be visiting other parts of Australia in the future, as it would be nice to see and experience other places this beautiful country has to offer.

Can imagine the planning, the hard work in the first few years when they were trying to establish a name in the wine making industry, and now, they are very famous.

Now I am not sure if the animals we see in the picture are real or just statues. I can not remember at all. Must be getting old, ha ha.

The food was good, service was great, and the people were quite friendly in all of the places we went to, which made the experience even better.

The view was nice, there was a lot of green- trees, grass, flowering plants and all, so being there was just like a sort of therapy.

I leave you with another picture of the vineyard. If you are a wine lover, or even if you're like me who doesn't know anything at all about wines, it is still a great experience to have. So go visit these places if you can! Until then, til next time!
