Welcome to Singapore! This is one of the must visit countries in South East Asia. It is a global financial center with a tropical climate and a multicultural population.
When my second eldest niece graduated from college, I took her here as a graduation gift and we traveled with two of my sisters. So I'll take you around Singapore and share pictures of the places we visited.
The Promenade, as it is fondly called, is a 3.5 kilometer along-the-bay walkway that brings people across many attractions at Marina Centre, Collyer Quay, and the Bayfront. The building we see in the picture is the world famous Marina Bay Sands luxury hotel with an infinity pool on top.
In the same vicinity is The Esplanade, which is a performing arts center. Named after Esplanade Park, it consists of a concert hall and a theater. Various concerts and other events are held here.
It is free of charge to go inside the building and explore, unless you're going to see the exhibits or concerts available, in which you'd have to pay of course.
Inside the building was a piano that can be played by the public. Since none of us can play the piano well enough, we just played the songs we know and satisfied ourselves by watching a couple play a beautiful piece when we came across them.
Since it is a center for the arts there are a lot of artistic installations inside the building as well.
This looks like the inside of the piano, or some kind of instrument, with the strings and all.
Tried getting the building in full so that we can see the durian shape.
And of course we took pictures at the Promenade Park as well, but we didn't stay long as the sun was blazing hot, we had to take shelter inside quickly.
We were sunburned by the end of the day, despite putting sunscreen and using umbrellas most of the time. Not sure why it was so hot there.
This is the famous Marina Bay Sands Luxury hotel. Its crowning glory is the infinity pool at the rooftop. I can just imagine the view up there.
Having the beautiful view in the area helps people relax from their busy lives and to have another vista from the tall buildings around, I guess.
The view actually reminds me of Hong Kong where I lived and worked for a number of years before I came back home to my own country.
I kind of wished there were more trees and greenery. There were flowers though.
Of course had to do numerous poses with the hotel in the background. :-)
It is clean everywhere in Singapore. That is one thing I hope we can emulate here in the Philippines. Will that day ever come?
Another famous attraction along the bay is the Merlion. The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore, depicted as a mythical creature with a lion's head with the body of a fish.
The fish body represents Singapore as being a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which means sea town in Javanese. A pic with my sisters.
Some greens along the area. I wish there are more of these in the future to counter the concrete jungle.
And it wouldn't be complete without a jump shot, would it? Pretty obvious who's the heaviest, eh? :-)
After several jumps, here we are looking demure, ha ha!
I think it will look a lot greener in a few years when the trees in the area grow bigger.
The best thing about the area is that there is free wifi so as you take pictures, you can start sharing them immediately on your social media accounts. :-)
I bid you farewell for now, hoping that you enjoyed the places I shared, and looking forward to sharing more travel stories with you in the coming days.
