Singapore International Airport

When you're traveling from one country to another, what is the first thing you check for at the airport you're going to? It may vary from individual traveler, but I think most will agree with me that there are 'standards' we look for in an airport.

Some airports are very bad, and some are very good, and Changi airport in Singapore has been voted the best airport in the world for an unprecedented 6 years in a row. Shall we see why? Let me take you there.

The first thing we look for in an airport is its accessibility to the city proper, and what sort of transportation we can take to get to our respective accommodations. At Changi airport, you can go to the city either by train, by bus, by taxi and private limousine.

We took the train to go into the city and it was fast and efficient, plus our hotel, the InterContinental Singapore at Bugis Junction, was just above the train station and we just had to walk a few meters and take the escalator up! Convenient, eh?

The train station is accessible by foot from Terminal 2 or 3. To get to the city, transfer to the westbound train at Tanah Merah Station. First train to Tanah Merah Station departs Changi Airport Station at 5:31 AM Mondays-Saturdays and 5:59 AM on Sundays and public holidays. The last train from Tanah Merah station departs at 11:18 PM. After that, you may take a taxi or bus.

For easier travel, you may choose to purchase an EZ-link card that can be used for both bus and trains and you can load it up at any train station. That way you don't have to purchase one way tickets each time, saves you time and money as well as you get a discount when you use the EZ-link card.

If you are on a layover and you don't have enough time to explore in the city, meanwhile, you can just explore the airport, and I promise you, you won't get bored at all.

The airport has a very beautiful orchid garden that you can take pictures of or just admire, and I am sure this is one of the reasons why the airport has been voted the best airport in the world 6 years in a row!

The varieties of the orchids and the overall set up of the garden is such that you won't think you are in an airport waiting for your flight. There are also benches all around where you can rest and just people watch if you wish.

This shows how much time, effort and money the government of Singapore has invested into the airport. Other airports I've been to like the Hong Kong airport and Incheon airport are also very good and efficient but Changi takes the cake for its blend of impressive amenities and airport efficiency.

We did not even stay that long at the airport to explore more but seeing this made me realize that it is indeed the best airport in the world.

There is also free wifi at the airport although I did not get to try it as we only stayed there for a short while. Connectivity is another thing we look for when we are traveling, and this airport does not disappoint.

We can only wish all airports are like this, but sadly, that is not the case. We can certainly hope that other airports will follow suit.

Good thing my sister took a lot of pictures there, eh? :-)

Next time you're at Changi airport, don't be in a rush. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.

My sister wanted to take a picture of the gigantic chupa chups. The child in her was activated. :-)

Everything is clean and spacious within the airport, as is the case in all of Singapore.

Here is a picture of the national carrier of Singapore.

When we were leaving Singapore, it was late afternoon. So we got to see a lot of airplanes taking off.

I believe this is Qantas, Australia's national carrier taxiing.

So we got to witness the sunset while taxiing the runway and also after take off.

We were already airborne at this time, and it was cool to be able to take pictures of so many planes plus the sun setting in one go.

So here then is my experience at Changi, and do enjoy your time there too. Explore and take pictures, and I promise you, it will be an amazing experience. Being able to see this beautiful airport was a nice start to our trip, and you can read more of the trip here.
