Sunset in Tamsui

Hello there! Here's the continuation of our adventures in Taiwan. So, after we came down from Yangmingshan Nationla Park, we decided to go all the way to Tamsui, to see the beautiful sunset.
We took the red line of the MRT, and Tamsui is the last station on one end, Xiangshan on the other. From Taipei Main Station, where we got off the bus from Yangmingshan, we took the MRT and it took us I think around 30-40 minutes all the way to Tamsui.

Tamsui is a seaside district in New Taipei, Taipei. The name Tamsui means 'fresh water', and like I said, Tamsui is famous for its beautiful sunsets, and we wanted to see it as well.

We arrived around 4:30 PM, and the place was bustling with activity. There was a singer busking by the seaside, and he had quite an audience.

From the MRT, we just followed the signs to Tamsui Old Street, and we arrived at the seaside. There are various tents that sell food items and other merchandise.

We took pictures immediately upon arrival to see the difference between daytime and sunset.

The weather was perfect when we arrived. It was breezy but not blustery, the sun was out but not too sunny.

The dock was colorful, and the general vibe was upbeat, with music playing in the background, and friends and families having picnics and fun together.

After taking a few pictures, we decided to walk around while waiting for the sunset, and there was a nearby 'night market' as well. Here we had our first taste of Taiwanese pork sausage. I have to say it was quite good.

There were a lot of choices, and we did not explore the whole place as we were consciously looking at the time, afraid that we might miss the sunset. This is caramelized sweet potatoes.

An assortment of different kinds of seafood, and there are also a lot of people who offer free tasting, so if you're walking around, chances are you will get full from just tasting all that's available. :-)

In about half an hour the sky turned into this color, and we sat down near the seaside, munching on corn on the cob and we also tried the chicken wing stuffed with glutinous rice, which was just so-so.

By this time the dock was filling up with people, jockeying for the perfect place to take pictures.

In a matter of a few minutes the sun started going down, and we just kept clicking away.

The photos might look the same, but they were taken in a few minutes interval to show the sun going down.

We stayed put, until the sky slowly changed color.

We did not get to go to the famous Lover's Bridge, as we would have to walk quite a distance, so we just had to be satisfied at the dock.

There were quite a number of people like us trying to get a picture of the sunset, getting a perfect shot or spot was tricky.

But everyone was courteous and friendly, some even offering to take a photo of me and my sister.

Of course the camera cannot capture the full color of the sky, so we alternated from taking pictures to just enjoying it with our eyes.

Look at all those people trying to get the same beautiful pictures like us!

Before it got too dark, we decided to leave earlier than the rest of the crowd so that we won't have to jostle our way into the train.

We bid the sunset adieu, our hearts light for having seen a beautiful sunset sky during our trip.

For the locals, the fun was just starting, as more tents sprung up, and more music coming from different places started playing.

There was this group performing an outdoor concert as well.

There was this 'golden' person posing for some curious onlookers, hoping to earn some money.

Dusk has fallen in Tamsui as we left, and all in all, it was a nice place to visit, and if you do go, try not to be in a rush, that way, you get to enjoy it more, eat more delicious food, from the street foods to restaurant food as there are so many choices.

From here we went to Shilin Night Market, and that will be the next installment. Stay tuned! For more travel articles, you can go to this page.
