Malinawon Resort Panglao

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend just like I did. It's time to share another article, and this time, it will be a feature about the place we stayed in while we were in Bohol.

The place we stayed in was a condo unit at Malinawon Resort, and I booked it through airbnb. To book through airbnb, you have to have an account with them. Half of the units in the resort are privately owned, while the other half is the resort's.

The unit we stayed in is owned by a British couple, but is managed by a Filipina who came to meet us on the day we arrived. This is the living room, and the sofa can be turned into an extra bed if necessary.

To the right of the living room is the 'kitchen' area, where the sink is and a sitting area for meals. The place is good enough for two people, I'd say up to three is fine.

There was a TV, also free internet, but the connection is very slow, as can be expected in the rural areas I guess. So if you are bringing work with you, it is quite a challenge especially when it requires staying connected.

The bed is what you see first when you enter the unit, and it is only separated by a curtain from the living room. All of these details of course were included when I was making the reservation.

The place was pretty clean as well, which made the stay comfortable for us. Guests are also expected to keep the places they stay in as clean as possible, treating it 'your home away from home'.

There was a microwave, a small refrigerator, just in case you buy food that needs storing and heating if you want to bring food in.

There was also a balcony, and there were some chairs on the balcony as well, so that you can relax and look at the pool in the evening, or perhaps early in the morning while you're having coffee. There are mosquitoes in the evening though, and I am a magnet for mosquitoes.

The pool was perfect for my sister who cannot swim well. The depth was just 4 feet, so there was no way she would drown. We spent quite some time relaxing by the poolside as well.

There is a cafe at the resort that serves sandwiches and other snacks, but if you want proper meals, you'd have to go outside the resort. It is just around 5 minutes drive to Alona beach where all the action is.

The unit we stayed in was on the second floor so we had a good view of the pool. Our host provided lots of information that were very helpful for us to enjoy our vacation.

The staff were very nice as well. Whenever we needed to go out, they would call a tricycle for us. One downside to being a bit far from everything is the transportation. It is a flat rate of 100PHP every time, which is priced for tourists. An alternative would be for one to rent a motorbike, if you know how to drive.

One advantage is that you are away from the crowds, and you can relax without all the noise. We were always woken up by the cackling of turkeys in the morning though. :-)

The price was not so bad as well. We paid a little over PHP2000 per night, and since there was two of us, it was quite reasonable, compared to the hotels by the beach.

Taxi to and from the airport in Tagbilaran costs around 300-500, depending on your haggling skills. Tricycles also offer rides, and I saw foreigners using tricycles instead of taxis.

Now that the airport in Panglao is open, more and more people will visit Panglao. All in all, it was a nice place to stay for a few days, and I highly recommend this place in case you will be going to Bohol anytime soon.
