Strawberry Picking in La Trinidad

Hello everyone! How are you all doing?  I have been quite busy lately so I wasn't able to write, but here I am again. I'll be visiting the land of the rising sun next week so I better post this before it gets shadowed by that trip.

I went to Baguio City last month to celebrate my birthday, just like I did the previous year. For our readers outside the Philippines, Baguio City is the summer capital of the  country, and during the months of November to February, this particular region has colder temperatures compared to the rest of the country. So if I miss having cold weather, all I have to do is take the bus and go up to Baguio.

Last time I went to the strawberry farm in La Trinidad, I did not do strawberry picking, as I am not a fan of strawberries. This time though, my nephew wanted to pick some. Looking at the fields, we saw a particular field where no one else has picked from before, and the strawberries were elevated, making it easier for elderly people like myself to pick them, ha ha ha.

My older sister also came with me, and here she is having a taste of strawberry. They were sweet and quite big. You have to pay PHP500 per kilo if you decide to do the activity, which is more expensive than buying it from the stalls outside, but I guess you are paying for the experience itself, plus you get to choose the berries yourself.

The berries were quite big, and since we were the first ones to pick from this particular lot, we had a lot to choose from. We also had a taste, of course, and they are really sweet when they are freshly picked.

This little basket is 1 kilo, and after you're done picking, they weigh what you picked and you pay whatever it weighs. If you picked over a kilo, you have to pay all of it, so be careful and don't get too excited about picking too much. You cannot re-attach the berries, ha ha.

The stalls sell them in different packages, and there are packs of PHP100, PHP200 and so forth, and they are also quite sweet if they are in season.

I was busier taking pictures of the berries than picking them, plus my sister was also picking, so it only took us a matter of minutes before we filled the whole basket.

If you don't want to pick, you can just go around the fields and take pictures, as there is no entrance fee. There are other things to do and see aside from picking strawberries.

Here is a short video I took of the berries.

Here is another one. If you do go, one thing to definitely try is the strawberry ice cream they sell. They are so, so good! And I don't usually like strawberry flavored ice cream.

There's also a lot of sunflowers in the fields, and it is quite a lot of fun seeing them up close and taking pictures of them.

I also harvested several heads of brocolli, for PHP50 per head, it was a bargain compared to the prices in Manila, plus of course I got to choose which ones, and I went for the biggest ones I could find! I just stir fry them in butter and garlic, so yummy!

It was another fun activity to add to the ones I already did, and it was a fun way to celebrate my birthday. I haven't decided where to spend my birthday next year, but wherever it will be and whatever I decide to do, I am sure it will be memorable yet again.

Stay tuned for my adventures in Japan next week! For more travel articles, you can go to this page.
