Is traveling to South Korea on your bucket list but is daunted by the visa application process? I've got good news for you! This 2020, Philippine passport holders will be given VISA-FREE access to cities like Seoul, Busan, and Nami Island – making you one step closer to visiting the places you see in Korean dramas and variety shows. There's a catch though- so keep on reading.
Last December 12, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the Ministry of Justice announced that as part of South Korea’s “Plan for Promoting Foreign Tours,” Philippine passport holders will be permitted to enter major South Korea cities without holding a visa!
Here are the limitations of this initiative though: Tourists are only permitted visa-free entry in inland areas – Seoul, Incheon, and Busan – for up to five days; and that their final destination should be Jeju Island. So if you do decide to go for this, it might be a little too costly if you have to travel all the way to Jeju at the end.
This new Visa-Free program also extends to Vietnam and Indonesian passport holders.
For more information, you may check out the official Visa-Free Program announcement of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea here.
Just in case you cannot wait for this program to take effect, you can still enter Jeju island visa-free, but you will be limited to stay in the island for the duration of your trip.
Choose wisely, plan your trip, and get going to your dream destination!
