A Visit to BenCab Museum Baguio City

Hi there! Planning a trip to Baguio but tired of visiting the same old places over and over again? Here is a new place you can visit in the near future.I am talking about BenCab museum, which is a museum that showcases the works of Ben Cabrera, who is a National Artist for Visual Arts, as well as some of the works of other artists.

BenCab museum is located in Asin Road, and if you are commuting, just take the jeep somewhere at the back of Maharlika building in Baguio City. You can just ask around and people will help you get there. Fare is PHP14 and travel time is around 30 minutes. We chose to commute instead of taking the car to lessen the congestion in the city somehow.

We paid an entrance fee of PHP150 per person, and the museum has three levels. I went with my older sister, my younger brother and his son.

It's a nice place to immerse one's self into the arts and some cultural experience, if I may say so. Once in, you can take your time browsing around the whole place, from the first level going down.

There is a Cordillera gallery, which showcases the life and the culture of the Cordillera region.

Each artwork showcases unique characteristics and they have short descriptions and the name of the artist who made it.

The gallery at my back displays the work of Dexter Sy, who is a Chinese Filipino artist.

Some of Dexter Sy's artworks, depicting of course, Chinese culture.

This was used as a grain storage in the old times. Cool, eh?

This, apparently is a tribal tattoo pattern.

If I remember correctly, this was used to store drinks for rituals and ceremonies.

'Huwag mo damdamin ang mga bagay dahil ang mga bagay ay walang damdamin.' Literally translated, Don't 'feel' things because things have no feelings.

Mother and child.

They also have an outdoor garden where you can go and have more pictures.

If you get hungry, they have Cafe Sabel in the premises, and they serve various dishes like ribs, pasta, burgers and other dishes. We ordered their ribs and it was quite nice. There is another restaurant outside the museum for more options.

So if you are looking for something else to do in the city, this is definitely a place I recommend for everyone to visit! For more travel articles, you can go to this page.
