Greetings from Sentosa! This is another place we went to visit while we were in Singapore, and it is also free of charge, so you may want to include it in your itinerary as well.
No visit to Sentosa Island is complete without visiting the Sentosa Merlion. It is in the same vicinity as Fort Siloso and the Universal Studios, so if you are going to these places, you may also want to check out this place.
They say the 37 meter tall mythical creature is what guards Singapore's prosperity. It also signifies Singapore's history as a port city.
At the foot of the merlion is a man-made waterfall great for picture taking, and my sister did not miss a chance to take one. :-)
Legend has it that the Merlion would visit Singapore every year to guard Singapore's well-being. Whether that is true or not, the Merlion is going to be forever Singapore's icon.
There's another Merlion at the Waterfront Promenade, so if you don't go to Sentosa, you can just see the other one at the Promenade.
Also in the area is the Madame Tussauds Singapore, where you can hobnob with the wax images of Taylor Swift and other famous stars. Tried to imitate the pose of this person but I failed, ha ha!
This wasn't here the first time I went to Singapore a few years back, so it was good to see new things.
There is an observation tower and a cable car ride that lets you see the whole area, so you'll never be bored while you are here.
My older sister had fun taking loads of pictures in the area. Please note that the Madame Tussauds, the cable car and the observation tower has entrance fees but the overall area is free of charge.
There is also a man-made mosaic 'brook' that flows down and it has different designs so you can take pictures as you walk the length of it.
There are various designs and colors as you walk on.
Children also sometimes dip their hands and feet in the water to refresh themselves.
Can you see the sting ray? Cool eh?
It is a place to relax, to take a walk and just enjoy it with the whole family.
This is at the bottom of the Merlion, where there are restaurants and souvenir shops, in case you get hungry or you want to do some shopping.
My younger sister going down a flight of stairs to meet Merlion below. It was fun to be able to walk around Sentosa, and the great thing about going there is that there is a free shuttle bus that goes around the area.
These are a few pictures I took when we went to IKEA. This store is my favorite furniture store, and aside from the beautiful and affordable household items, they have delicious food as well.
Singapore has 2 IKEA locations, and we went to the Tampines store. To go there, just take the MRT and get of at Bedok Station, and from the station will be a free shuttle bus that will take you to IKEA.
The whole neighborhood is called Tampines Retail Park as there are other stores aside from IKEA were you can shop, and you can just get off at whichever store you wish to shop from.
Aside from shopping, I had fun taking these pictures that I am now sharing. I wish I could have bought more things, but then I would have paid for the excess baggage, so I had to restrain myself.
We also enjoyed their famous meatballs and chicken wings of course, which I first tasted in one of their stores in Hong Kong.
I have more pictures but I'll stop here. Meanwhile, this picture was taken at Orchard Road, which is like the Gangnam of Singapore. Here they have the ritziest shops.
This is a trendy hotel in the area and I just had to take a picture of the Chinese design of the building.
I leave you with these colorful umbrellas, which, if I'm not mistaken, were taken somewhere near Clarke Quay. Adieu for now, and, for more travel articles, you can go to this page.
