While we were in Baguio City we checked out a few places that were noteworthy on the blogging world. I came about Canto restaurant, which was part of the now defunct ketchup community.
Since I read about good reviews, me and my niece decided to check it out ourselves.
Canto restaurant is located at 25 Kisad Rd, just at the back, although not sure on which side, whether north, south, east or west side, pardon me, of Burnham Park. We walked to find it following directions after asking around a lot.
The building is quite spacious, and it is glass all around, giving guests an opportunity to see the view outside, if they are not talking or eating, or looking at their phones or tablets as is the case nowadays. There is parking space, but if you go during lunch or dinner time and you don't get there early enough, you might not find a space, thus I recommend commuting, or even taking a walk for exercise.
We got there at the height of lunch time, and the place was packed! There was a long queue, good thing they have a seating area outside for people waiting. Since we were already there, we decided to wait it out and find out why people were flocking to this place.
Seating is on two levels, and we waited for about 20-30 minutes, the waiting time used to update our traveling status on our social media accounts to pass the time, ha ha. The interior looks airy, the ambiance was inviting due to the glass walls, creating a lively atmosphere. The furniture is all white and minimalist, exuding a clean atmosphere.
Even the ceiling and the fans are white, which creates an 'airy' atmosphere. All in all, the overall ambiance was nice, and people eating seemed happy with their food.
While we were waiting, we looked at the menu and decided what to eat. The ribs was making all the buzz, and we decided to try it as well. The staff let us know that the portions are big, so we decided to get one and order the buffalo wings as an added item.
The ribs did not disappoint. The meat was tender, moist and falling off the bones, which is what I look for when I eat this type of meat. The portion of the rice was generous, and I had difficulty finishing it. The honey and mustard dressing of the salad on the side was delicious, and I gobbled the salad up in a matter of minutes!
The buffalo wings was a big disappointment for me though. It came out too hard- maybe the chicken was fried for too long, there was no moisture at all in the meat, the sauce did not help at all. All I could smell was the cajun seasoning or whatever type of chili sauce they used.
All in all, the experience was good, the service was fast and the staff courteous, the food was good, and since we only ordered those two dishes, I cannot complain. I would definitely go back there again when I am in the city, to try their other dishes as well.
Check it out for yourselves the next time you visit Baguio City as well!
