Garden of Morning Calm

Happy new year everyone! Christmas came and went and it was a whirlwind of activities for me, so I hope you'll be forgiving if I haven't posted anything new in a while. Anyways, I hope to post more of my recent trip to South Korea in the coming days and weeks, and here is another installment.

Along with Nami Island, The Garden of Morning Calm was another place we visited outside of Seoul, and we actually did it on the same day. We booked this activity with Klook, and everything was smooth save some waiting for other group participants while we were leaving Nami Island.
During winter, the garden becomes a 'garden of lights'. The plants and other features are decorated with various lights in an assortment of colors and the lights are the main attraction during the winter.
During our visit though, the whole garden was not yet ready. We saw the staff still putting up lights in some plants, and the tunnels of light were not yet accessible, which was quite a disappointment.
We arrived at the garden close to 4 in the afternoon, and by that time it was not yet dark enough for the lights to be picture ready. They were nice, but the lights of course would have been best viewed after dark.
Going around the park takes a minimum of an hour, and if you want to take pictures leisurely, a maximum of two hours should do it. But again, if you are part of a group, your time is limited and you don't want to inconvenience other people if possible.
There are several areas in the garden, and its your choice to just walk around and enjoy the view and take pictures as much as you want.
If you are a fan of K-drama and you've watched the drama Love in the Moonlight starring Park Bo Gum and  Kim Yoo-jung, this pond was one of the shooting locations!
Again the surface of the pond was frozen, and I kept taking pictures from different angles. I tried picturing the image of the lake totally frozen and how it would look like.
Now I think you're gonna watch the drama again to see this place featured, he he he.
I took this picture from a higher vantage point, and by this time it was already close to 5 PM so it was getting dark and getting colder by the minute. It was minus ten degrees that day.

This boat would have looked like it was sailing on a sea of lights had it been darker already.
This is what they call the 'Pathway to Heaven', and it is a path lined with trees and light fixtures that lead to a chapel. I guess that's their representation of the pathway to heaven. :-)
Again they were still in the process of putting in the lights in this area as well so it did not look as good as it should have.
All in all, it was a pleasant day trip outside of Seoul, and the highlight was definitely the snow fall we experienced when we were at Nami Island.

Anyways, hope you enjoy this installment, and if you're looking for more inspiration in making your own itinerary, you can go to this page to check out other destinations. Enjoy!
