Grape picking in Bauang, La Union

Hi there! Last weekend I went to Baguio to celebrate my birthday. I went with my older sister, and my younger brother and his son met us there. On our way home though, my brother's way will pass through La Union, and he suggested we go grape picking, so we did.

A few years back, if you ask if grape picking would be possible in the Philippines, the answer would have been no, but times have changed, and so this activity is no longer a far fetched dream.

The grape farms are not big, that's why I would not call them vineyards. The one we went to just had one plot of vines, but they were full with fruits.

The farms are located between the  towns of Bauang and Caba, La Union, and the 'marketers' stand on the highway with placards on their hands that say 'grapes picking'. They then tell you how far or near the farm is, whether there is an entrance fee or not, and then you follow the marketer to the site.

We arrived at this small farm, and the vines were full of fruits indeed, but they were not fully ripe for picking yet.

The good thing was that they had grapes from another farm that they were selling, and we just took pictures with the grapes, ha ha.

They also sell wines and other by products of grapes at the site, as well as other food stuff, so you can choose your pick. Of course, it is also your option to leave and try another farm, if you really want to experience cutting the grapes from the vine yourself.

I had fun taking pictures of the grapes though. It would have been fun to cut them myself, but that is for next time. At least I got to touch them with my hands, ha ha.

We did not stay long at the farm, we stayed for at most half an hour, long enough for us to take some pictures and buy some of their products. We did buy some grapes because they were sweet and reasonably priced.

It was quite a fun experience, a happy culmination to my birthday celebration, and after that my brother dropped us at the bus terminal for the journey back home. This is a very good activity for a day trip, especially if you have kids. Just keep going to different farms if you don't luck out on your first one.! :-)

To cap it off, here is a little video clip I took. Enjoy!
